It has been reported that some patients have been misdiagnosed with Abdominal Abscess, when in fact the correct diagnosis in their specific case was Appendicitis.
The most common treatment for appendicitis is surgery to remove the inflamed appendix. The surgery should not be delayed by more than a day after diagnosis, Diagnosis is mainly through a physical exam to assess the pain and the location of the pain. Imaging tests can help confirm the diagnosis. It is important to rule out other conditions such as urinary tract infections as well as ectopic pregnancy in adult females. Other conditions such as bowel obstruction need to be excluded as well.
