It has been reported that some patients have been misdiagnosed with Colitis, when in fact the correct diagnosis in their specific case was Crohn's Disease.
Chron’s disease is a chronic condition with no cure. Lifestyle changes and other treatments can reduce symptoms and help the patients lead a normal life. Medications may include corticosteroids, anti-inflammatory drugs, immune system modifiers and antibiotics. Surgery is required in most cases as well. The condition gets worse without treatment and may lead to life threating complications including colon cancer. Tests are done to eliminate other conditions with similar symptoms. Some of the tests done during diagnosis are blood and stool tests and imaging tests. An endoscopy is often performed as well.
