It has been reported that some patients have been misdiagnosed with Colon Infections, when in fact the correct diagnosis in their specific case was Ulcerative Colitis.
Ulcerative colitis is an inflammatory bowel disease that causes inflammation and ulcers of the colon and rectum. Symptoms include diarrhea with blood or pus, abdominal pain and cramping, rectal pain, inability to defecate, and weight loss. As inflammatory digestive conditions have similar presentations it can be easily misdiagnosed as Crohn’s disease, irritable bowel syndrome, colon infection and colitis from other causes. Without treatment it can lead to severe bleeding, a perforated colon, severe dehydration, bone loss and colon cancer.
