It has been reported that some patients have been misdiagnosed with Generalized Myxedema, when in fact the correct diagnosis in their specific case was Lymphoedema.
Although there is no cure for lymphoedema, there are many treatments aimed on reducing the swelling and preventing complications. Specific muscular exercises help in moving the fluid out. Therapists can also apply compression bandages or manually draining the lymph. Diagnosis is done by reviewing the signs and symptoms. Some patients may be at an elevated risk of developing lymphoedema like patients with recent cancer lymph node surgery.
