It has been reported that some patients have been misdiagnosed with Herpes, when in fact the correct diagnosis in their specific case was Vaginal Thrush.
Vaginal thrush or a vaginal yeast infection is a fungal infection caused by candida albicans. It causes symptoms such as itching and irritation in the vagina and vulva, burning sensation while urinating, redness and swelling of the vulva, vaginal rash, thick white odor free discharge with cottage cheese appearance or watery discharge. It is not a sexually transmitted infection but its symptoms can be easily mistaken for an STI such as herpes, or trichomoniasis, an allergic reaction or small cuts from shaving.
