It has been reported that some patients have been misdiagnosed with Hypothyroidism, when in fact the correct diagnosis in their specific case was Polymyalgia Rheumatica.
Treatment for polymyalgia rheumatica include oral steroids to alleviate pain and stiffness. An increase of the intake of calcium and vitamin D is also recommended. Physical therapy may be indicated for patients who had to suffer long periods of inactivity. Diagnosis is confirmed by a physical exam as well as blood and imaging tests. High levels of erythrocyte sedimentation rate (sed rate) and C-reactive protein may indicate inflammation.
