It has been reported that some patients have been misdiagnosed with Kaposi's Sarcoma, when in fact the correct diagnosis in their specific case was Syphilis.
Syphilis is a bacterial infection and if left untreated can lead to very serious health conditions like blindness, damage to the nervous system, brain, other organs and can even lead to death. Pregnant women can pass the infection to their unborn children and cause birth defects or still birth. Treatment is through a course of antibiotics. Diagnosis of syphilis is confirmed by a blood test that detects antibodies produced by the body in response to the infection. Antibodies can take up to 3 months after infection to be detected.
