It has been reported that some patients have been misdiagnosed with Kaposi Sarcoma, when in fact the correct diagnosis in their specific case was Lichen Planus.
Lichen planus is a condition that causes swelling and irritation in the skin, hair, nails and mucous membranes such as the skin in the mouth. It can cause purplish, itchy flat bumps on the skin and in other areas it forms lacy white patches. Other symptoms include hair loss, change in scalp colour and nail damage or loss. This condition occurs when the patient’s immune system attacks cells of the skin or mucous membranes.
