It has been reported that some patients have been misdiagnosed with Nerve Injury, when in fact the correct diagnosis in their specific case was Laryngitis.
Laryngitis is the inflammation of your vocal folds from talking, singing and yelling too much, irritation or infection. This causes your vocal folds to swell and distorts the sounds produced from them. They may even lose their voice entirely. Symptoms include hoarseness, weak voice or voice loss, sore and dry throat, and a dry cough. Diseases that have similar symptoms and can cause misdiagnosis includes, gastroesophageal reflux disease, allergies, irritants like alcohol and tobacco, vocal abuse, neoplasia, laryngeal papillomatosis, squamous cell carcinoma and nerve injury (vagus or laryngeal nerve).
