It has been reported that some patients have been misdiagnosed with Pelvic Inflammatory Disease, when in fact the correct diagnosis in their specific case was Trichomonas Infection.
Trichomonas infection is treated by antibiotics. If left untreated the infection can lead to other complications and mainly can increase the risk of HIV infection. Diagnosis is confirmed by testing a vaginal swab in women and a swab from the penile discharge in men.
